Default North Sea Route Boulogne sur Mer to Den Helder

I'm having a bit of trouble getting good advice for this leg of the trip. I'm planning on doing it late April, early May. I've got a few questions:
  • Has anyone done this trip and if so do you have a journal or website?
  • Other than the official site, are there any other sites I should know about?
  • Should I travel north to south or south to north?
  • I use a camping hammock. What is the approximate diameter of the average tree? (silly question I know, I really want to know if I should pack tent poles)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This'll be no help to you at all, but I'm supposed to be riding part of that around the same time next year (May, actually). My friend and I are following the route of his father's D-Day camapin. IT goes from Sword Beach (from memory) to Minden In Germany. 750 miles or their abouts.
My only advic would be to travel SOuth to North (or is it East to West), as the wind I believe will be behind you.
