I was wondering if anyone was a member of the London Cycling Campaign? A mate of mine has recommended that I join, but having looked at the website I can't see the benefit it would bring (apart from 3rd party insurance which I already have).
It seems to me that they provide the same information as CTC and TFL provide. What am I missing? |

I've been a member for two years, you get 5% discount in most cycleshops and a magazine in the post every now and then. It's sort of a union for cyclists i think.
is it worth the money? I'm not sure, still to decide. |

Many people join simply to support this organisation in it's work to promote cycling and defend cyclists' rights. Because LCC has so many members it has been able to negotiate special deals with insurance companies. As a result, membership not only gives free third party insurance but also entitles members to special deals on theft insurance. In recognition, many bike shops in fact offer 10 per cent discount to LCC members. (Some folks save in excess of their yearly membership subs if they buy a new bike). Members benefit from free legal advice. On the difference between LCC and CTC, LCC is London specific, it has a large number of borough groups in London. TfL's remit is all transport in London (including trains, busses, the Underground, DLR and cycling) so their advice and information will not be cyclist specific to the same extent. I would say you should join if you are interested in supporting LCC's campaigning work in London. I volunteered for them over summer 2006 and they're a nice group of people, many of whom cycled to the office each day. Hope that helps.

I'm curious how are the going to handle riders from outside? What if I ride from outside into London - what are they going to do? Put a temporary plate on my bike or chase me in the streets to fine me? ![]() What a crappy idea. I know these plates existed approx. 50 years ago in my city but the idea died so long ago I've not been born yet. |
