Unhappy Steve Irwin dead(The Croc.Hunter)

The Crocodile Hunter apparently died from a Sting Ray wound to the chest. I always thought he would be eaten by something eventually but still..........
A sad day for me! I liked his style and his antics.
I will miss seeing him on the TV.

He was dedicated to wildlife and his Australia Zoo program was interesting. Having said that, they showed him on an interview today and I disagreed with his refusal to acknowledge people had reason to be alarmed when he dangled his infant kid in front of a croc.
Steve sounded quite angry at the time and insisted he knew what he was doing and could never possibly have tripped over, lost his balance or lost control of that situation. Even so, when they showed the clip of what he did on that occasion you could clearly see he took his eyes right off the croc for several seconds while he was holding the infant. His head was momentarily turned the other way and the croc was out of his scope of vision for about 6 seconds. Had Steve made a similar mistake in a boxing ring he'd have been knocked out. Sure, the chances were minimal that the croc would have launched an attack in the zoo that day, but people were right to point out he was endangering the child.
As it happens, Steve died as a result of an accident in the water and just happened to get stung. In the end it was just an unexpected twist of fate that led to his death but let's hope his team-mates continue to carry on with the animal wellfare work Steve pioneered.

JH I loved his shows. The whole world is saddened, he brought a smile to the face of many. Thoughts and prayers to his family and may his spirit live on.

Sad day. He always gave me the impression of not being totally right with the world. The show where he stuck his head into a rattlesnake den gave me the impression that he could survive anything. I was wrong.

The world lost a good one.

Most of the Australians I know seem to hate the guy, but he was huge in the U.S. I thought he was funny as hell, and kids just love watching his show. Sad.

Pretty unusual, think they said that only 3 people have been killed by Stingrays in Australia.

Did anyone really expect the guy to die of old age? C'mon, he wrestled pythons and crocs!

One thing's for sure - he won't be messing with sting rays again!

To get stung by a stingray, you usually have to make it feel threatend, like accidently standing on it or something.

My kid was crushed....I too am a little shocked. An aussie friend of mine said his wfe cried...He was a likeable dude and you had to admire his enthusiasm for wildlife... . So, you can say at least he died doing what he loved....and it was quick and probably a lot better than being ripped to shreds by an angry croc....

Crocs don't rip you to shreds. They drown you, then tuck you up under a river bank until you get soft enough to devour in big chunks.
They particularly enjoy the taste of German back-packers.

That's true they like their meat aged a bit. He is thinking of divorce attorneys.

That's the report I heard as well. I have seen dozens of documentaries on all of the Ray's and they are very docile.

I saw the attack last night on the news. The Ray was so quick Irwin didn't stand a chance.

I walked up the road to get the newspaper yesterday morning and saw a King snake moving on the side of the drive, and I thought of Steve Irwin
"Look ah there, a North American King Sn-ike, what a gorrrguous Sn-ike, just gorrrrgous!!!".
When I reached the mailbox I pulled out the paper and saw a picture of Steve on the front page (Sacramento Bee) and thought, "How strange,,,, I wonder what he has done now?". I took a couple of glances at the caption to realize he died the night before. I was stunned and my wife thought I was joking when I told her.

He will be missed.
