Hi All !
Has anyone got any tips / recipes for more healthy eating. Due to the fact i am so busy at work, i am finding i am eating a lot more quick fix food. Due to the fact i get home later i am also not riding as much as i should. Some quick and tasty recipes tips would be great. Oh and no tuna.....cant stand it ! lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Cheers Tim |

make your own sandwitches to take with you, they are usually more healthy then whats in ones you buy. you could add turkey/ham salad, cheese, hummous, roast veg, chicken or anything else you fancy. also make a small salad and take that along to(although watch the dressing go for vingerette with a little olive oil if needed).
what are you currently eating?? post up an average days meal. laura |

You should check out the Nutrition forum here. Stay away from trans-fats (hydrogenated oils, margarines), which you'll find present in a majority of packaged foods in the supermarket and in restaurant meals. It's a killer, and unless you read ingredient labels carefully you'll be getting far too much of it. High fructose corn syrup is another synthetic product to stay away from, and you'll find it everywhere. I'd also highly recomment the book "The China Study." The author is one of the world's leading health researchers, and he very persuasively argues that all animal-derived foods (meat, dairy, eggs, etc.) promote cancer and heart disease.

Thanks Heaps, will look into those great book ideas.
Cheers for the words of wisdom Laura, i will start making my lunch and taking it with me to work. A normal days menu would be: Breakfast - Muesli and OJ Lunch - (either ) Chicken Salad Sandwich, Toasted Ham and Cheese Sandwich, Meat Pie or those bloody yummy cheese Roll's. ( please note: not all of the above ! lol ) Quite often i dont eat lunch as i am too busy, opting to wait until dinner. Dinner - Varies........... Pasta, lotsa rice and chicken, fish and chips. I think my big downfall is snacking ( as im not eating lunch ), and digging into what ever is available. Any healthy snack ideas ? Appreciate you help. Tim |

Healthy snack ideas .... fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts or if you like them both, one of those fruit and nut mixes

Here's my favorite, if somewhat heretical dietry reference. http://www.westonaprice.org/
Probably the best thing you can learn to cook is bone stock. It is just so versatile and you can cook realy tasty meals by just throwing some meat and vegetables into it and simmering away. Here's the quick way to make it. Get some chicken carcasses and optionaly some chicken feet and put them in a pot. Rule of thumb is that about 1/4 of the pot you are using is bones/meat and the rest water. Turn it on high until it starts to boil, turn down to the lowest setting, skim the surface crud off, add a pinch of salt, several peppercorns, a bay leaf or 2, put the lid on and walk away for 16-24 hours. It doesn't need to be suppervised although I do cook with electricity and not gas. Simple and absolutely delicious. Simple dishes like just cooking some bok choy in stock are absolutely delicious.
