I run the fire xc pros in 2.1 size. work GREAT in all conditions. they do hold some mud, but it usually comes out on the next fast section of trail

a 1.8 might be better in the mud. if you're using them on a race bike, i'd say keep with them they may be faster than a wider version.

just come back from 10 miles off road using them i found them a bit twitchy on soft sand and technical downhill sections yyou have to go a bit slower but overall very happy with them they do roll a lot quicker than the kenda nevagals that i was using. and i can climb like a goat with them.

excellent!
downhill sections with narrow tires are always sketchy, as your tire seems to go in between all the bumps automatically!

if you find a tire that grips well in sand, let me and the rest of the mountain bike world know, haha
