Anyone out there care to comment on a little question I have?
The other day at a local club ride with might i add 8 riders in A grade and about 11 in B grade, a race was had. B grade went off 2 mins before us fat blobs in A grade and up the road they went. We began our race and were hauling along when after two laps ( of the 5.8 km course) myself and another bloke made a small gap on the rest of the A's. we kept up the tempo and before long had a decent little break. Another couple of laps and the two of us had B grade, got on and sat on the back of them to rest, the other bloke I broke away with telling me his legs were no good for the 70 k's we had left. So we decide to sit on and wait for the A's to peg us back. When they get to us and the other bloke and i go to hop back in with them all HELL breaks loose, with them calling us cheats and ass holes, pushing and telling us "your out". I lost my temper and ended up taking off again not knowing what was going on, A few foul words issuing from my gob also. Some B graders came with me and any ways by the end of the race i ended up about 2 min up on the rest of the A's. The reffs said i had won but the rest of the A riders called me all sorts of stuff and still afirm that we were in the wrong, does any one out there have the knowledge of the rules to clarify this for me PLEASE? It ruined my weekend but Id like to know where i stand, on drafting once you make a gap, can you sit on, and not work or not at all. If so how far back and if i did nothing wrong can i tell the blokes to kiss my ...............! Like to hear from anyone cheers and all the best HaRRy. I don't know where you live and what the race organizer's rules are where you race, but around here drafting another category is definitely a race no-no... doesn't matter whether you've made a break or are trying to catch back up. Say you didn't want to wait for your group to catch back up - you just drafted the B's for a while and then continued putting time into your break. That would be an unfair advantage since the chase group did not have the same opportunity to rest. Same thing when chasing - using a breakaway in another group to pull you back up to your own leaders.
