clincher????

I would say that is a 'normal' tire. It is a tyre that usually has a seperate inner tube. The tube holds the air and forces the tire beads against the rim.

Yeah, nowadays it is a poor name, as that type of tire has evolved to what we have today, but it has stuck.

The other type of tire is generally called 'tubeless' or 'sew-ups' and used on racing bikes. Used because they are supposed to save a very small amount of weight. As you sound like a beginner I would suggest staying away from a bike with that kind of wheels.

There are some who prefer to race with clinchers.
