There is a great "open" hill climb (road) race in Port Angeles, Wa. July 1. It goes every year and has some very good riders and usually a few pro mountain bikers show up from Victoria. It's a hard 55-65 minutes up at 6-8% on good asphalt .
All are invited. I will bump this post as the time gets nearer. |

Is this Mt. Constitution? I like hillclimbing so I thought about doing it this year, but I think it conflicted with something else. My favorite hill climb race around here is the Mt. Baker Hillclimb held in September, 24.5 miles, 4300 ft of climbing. Under 2 hrs is considered to be a pretty good time, winning times are in the 1:20's for men and 1:30's for women. I came in 3rd amongst the women this year at 1:52 and some change. No one has yet beat the cutoff of 1:20 for men or 1:30 for women to win the bonus prize of $1500 or so. If you want to check it out early a little bit of it will be shown on the cycling episode of Me vs Me - a new sports reality show that's on the Fine Living channel. I don't know when, but I'm waiting to see if I see myself in it so I hope they show it soon

Baker is very good! But you would like this one....loads of fun and a good challenge. Gee I don't know the mountain name but it's the nice paved road that goes up to the ski hill. |

Yes it's Hurricane Ridge...should have said that in the beginning. The group rides at a good pace up to the park gate and then the hammering starts. The better riders come in just under an hour. Grade is 6-8%...mostly 6 I think. |

Yes it is a good race. I did it not this year but the year previous. I came up 5th. Wish we had a climb like that in Victoria.

You might want to see if you can get it listed on the WSBA calendar as well - it lets all of the WA racing community know that it is happening - and it doesn't have to be a WSBA or USCF race to be on the calendar.
www.wsbaracing.com looks like the only other thing going on that day is the Master's crit championship |
