Default US6, Clear Creek through Front Range

For those lucky enough to live there, what's the story on US6 in Clear Creek Canyon? Yeah, I know it's technically off limits to bikes, but has anyone done it anyway? Seems like going toward Golden (downhill) should be OK.

Alternately, what's the best route from Idaho Springs to Golden? Looks like I-70 has no frontage road much or most of the time.

Of course US6 has the additional benefit of making the downhill continuous!

Many thanks in advance,

Rich Haubert
