Another year rolls over and I've commited to doing a 19 mile hilly road time trial as part of a relay race, the team has entered a division which requires a mtn bike, max 48x12 gear,no aero equipment, and at least semi knobbies of 26x1.5.
The extra pleasure is in knicking off quite a few roadies. Since I couldn't lock my shock out last year I found a rigid fork for my Santa Cruz Chameleon but I could do better in the tire dept as I was running about 75 psi in some well worn michelans. I have enough time [about three weeks ] to find any tire out there just give me some hints. I also need a lot more spin for when I'm topped out on the 6 miles of flats but I don't think that will come along in 3 weeks. |

Continental Sport Contact 1.3" or Continental Grand Prix 1". The Sport Contacts are bloody hard to get onto the rim and could do with heating, soap or talc to aid fitting.

Because this is a team event the individual splits per leg don't get posted for awhile, I think I was the 2nd fastest mtn bike at about 45 minutes. Even though I only passed a few road bikes it was worth the pain of spinning a 46-12 w/26 inch wheels to their 53-11 700c to see the look on their faces. The kenda was suprisingly fast on the downhill sections, obviously not as fast as the roadies, my cyclometer showed a max of 49mph for one section. |
