Default A question that has been asked..............

A thousand times, Sorry but I would appreciate all responses. I am going to take the plunge and get a road bike. I plan on training to do a Century either this season, (doubtful) or next.
I do not want to spend more than $600-700 for the bike. I am 6'4" 190, 46 yrs OLD! Trek, Giant, Cannondale??
Also what do you guys think about the Jamis, Ibex, Motobecane, Tommasso's Internet orders???
Would like traditional frame not compact if possible, and clipless pedals.

Thanks much, Tony Box a Ziti...........

Hi,

First of all congratulations for your courage about doing some racing ! It seems you are on a budget, so maybe look for an aluminium frame and entry level components. Both Shimano and Campagnolo have different groups for different budgets, so you will get good components for the money you'd like to spend. I think its better to buy new stuff... unless you are buying from someone you know well, safety is a concern also !

Good luck

I just bought the Jamis Ventura and scored on a Full Carbon frame.Usually this model comes with an Aluminum frame. I must say it isnt for serious racing but for the money it is definitely worth it.

Thanks,, Jamis is a very nice bike, but, I settled on a Fuji Newest 2.0. With the Jamis I would have had to buy pedals, which I ended up doing anyway. I wanted 25cc tires and the dealer would not switch them N/C. The price was a little too high. The Fuji I got for 600 and with all the goodies It'll be about 800 total when done. The dealer is one of the best in the area and I have dealt with him before. I am happy. Can't wait til get it and get it on the road!!!
