What is the best thing to take in your bidon during short (30 to 50km) club races.
Water? Gatorade or other "sports" drinks? Juice? Cordial? |

a race of 30km to 50km sounds like an event that is likely to be less than 1.5 hours. i personally would not bother taking along any energy drinks for consumption during the race - just plain water would do me fine. why? because our body apparently has about 1500 Cals of ready to use muscle glycogen, which is good for about 90 minutes. consuming any carb drink for such a short race will serve no real purpose. keep it for post-race recovery.
but hey, what do i know? i'm not a sports nutritionist. boon |

Drink an energy / recovery / sports drink. Start drinking in during your warm up for energy and during the race.
It will give you some energy during the race(it does for me in 40km races) and will aid in recovery by taking it as you are loosing energy ![]() |
