Default New Max HR - Achieved with Cold - Q's

Hi Guys,

I increased my max HR from 192 - 194 in a crit last week.

Normally I would just apply this new HR Max to calculate my HR zones again which will increase my zone levels etc.

Only catch is I had a cold at the time.

Now should I adjust the zones - my heart was pumping at the rate after all!

or

Should I leave them the same.

Advice please - Cheers Phil

The vast majority of people who still train by heart rate rather than power, tend to use their LT (lactate threshold) to set their training zones, not max hr....I think max hr is a moot point, especially in a crit, where it is very likely that you would see numbers you normally wouldn't see in a non-race situation. Also, I don't think max hr is affected by fitness. I would leave your zones as is...or, switch to training by LT zones, which are not affected by such things. I'm not a physiologist or anything, so maybe someone else could give you a better answer, but that's the way I understand it.
