about that sort of time. depends (in part) how motivated you are... depends what you mean by VO2max wattage (the power at the end of a VO2max test, or the minimum power required to elicit VO2max) ric

as my old dad would say: "how long is a piece of string?" There isn't a specific answer to your question, it varies from person to person, and due to a whole host of other factors. You're best off setting a goal that is specific, for e.g., do a MAP test (see my article at cyclingnews) or just go all-out for 5-mins, then see how you improve (or not) with your training ric

Hi Ric,
I just clicked on your URL to see if you are giving any commentary on the TdF this year, it seems not; but I do see that your web page is offering what we might call "retro coaching services" ... "Do you want to excel at cycling in 2006? ...we will help get you in great shape for the 2006 season." JB. |

I've read (from timan here on the forum I think it was) that 25 - 30 mins is the maximum accumulative time the average experienced roadie can spend in Level 5 (VO2Max) per session...... that's where the 5 x 5 interval workout comes from I imagine |

The general answer is 6 minutes.
However as mentioned it varies from person to person. |

I have read that 8 minutes is the max but I think if you were being chased by a Rhino you could do 10.

I can agree with the max accumulative time comment above. I start to get cramping in my calves at about that much accumulated VO2Max even if it is across 2-3 different sessions with some resting. |
