Elkhart Lake, WI -- As professional cyclists challenge the stages of the Tour de France, local cyclists, race car drivers, race fans, families, and cancer survivors are tuning up their bicycles for the annual Tour de Road America benefiting Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) in Elkhart Lake, WI. The fundraising ride takes place on the 4.0-mile Road America auto racing circuit on Friday, August 10, 2007 at approximately 6:30 P.M., following the day’s auto racing activities.

The ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and all kinds of bikes. The ride supports the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s cancer survivorship, advocacy, education, and research programs. Organizers expect several hundred participants to take to the track next month.

“The tour” holds special appeal for participants. For auto racing fans, it’s a chance to ride along side their racing heroes from the American Le Mans, Champ Car, and Atlantics series. For avid cyclists, it’s a rare opportunity to challenge the hills and 14-turns of the circuit. The ride appeals to families due to its wide smooth pavement, and a traffic-free, controlled environment. And for cancer survivors and advocates, it’s a way to LIVE STRONG, the motto of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Mike Petersen, owner of Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing and a rider in the 2005 event commented, “This will be the third year that we have been involved in the Tour de Road America as a team and I am very excited about that. I don’t think there is anyone that has not been directly impacted one way or another by cancer and this is a great way to support research to fight the disease. We are always proud to support charities around the American Le Mans Series but the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Tour de Road America is by far one of the most unique and fun things we do every year.”

The ride takes place in conjunction with the “Generac Power Weekend” of races at Road America, August 9 – 12, 2007. Information and registration details for the Tour de Road America are available at www.pelotonride.org. Pre-registered participants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and Cytomax Sport Drink. On-site registration is scheduled for August 10 at the LAF booth near the 4-Mile Merchant.
