Hi,
I'm about to go to Carlsbad, and I'd like to be able to ride along the coast as near as possible to the ocean. I'll be with my family, so I don't want a huge long ride, maybe 10 miles each way. Is that doable? I'm guessing that Hwy 1 and the 5 Fwy are the same at that point, so I'm not riding on Hwy 1. Also, I'd like to take my wife on a ride. Does anyone know of a place around there to rent a tandem? Thanks. Ken |

On vacation I did some riding in that area. My favorite ride was from
Tamarack Ave off Carlsbad State Beach to Torrey Pines Beach close to La Jolla. It is way more than 10 miles but there are plenty of places to u turn. You travel on Carlbads Blvd close to the beach which turns into 101 Hwy south to Torrey Pines. Traffic with cars and other riders is heavy on the weekends. Obey all stops. I saw this bike place in Leucadia (I believe) that had a rental sign but I dont know if it had tandems. Have fun and be safe. Carlsbad will be on the left map, Northern Region. Click on the map and it will bring up a map of the region with the bike routes marked in color. Since it is a PDF file you can zoom in to any resolution you want. Enjoy, Tom |
