I was wanting to get into mountain biking and am looking to spend around 400-500 on a new bike. I have it narrowed down to:
Trek 4300 : http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bike.../4_series/4300/ Gary Fisher Wahoo: http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/wahoo Specialized Rockhopper: http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22177 I don't know enough about bikes to pick the best for the money so if you all could help that would be great. |

Virtually the same price and components. I have a 2006 Rockhopper and my son has a 2006 4300. There is no noticeable difference between the two bikes. So, it's a push. |

All three are fairly equally matched in quality, components and value. I'm most familiar with Specialized so I'd give the nod to the Rockhopper since I know how nice they ride, and I think it's the best looking of the bunch. I'd pick the Wahoo a close second.
If you can test ride them, do it. That may be the biggest factor in deciding your choice. Don't forget to watch for those end of season deals too. |

dont get the trek, it has a crappy fork. i think the specialized and the fisher both have rockshox dart but the one on specialized bike has lockout and the one on fisher only has preload adj. (oem).
go for the rockhopper, it has a nicer fork. |

I purchased a Gary Fisher Wingra when I recently moved to Perth from Sydney, Australia. I compared it to a Specialized equivilent, an Avanti and a Giant CX 4 . The Gary Fisher won hands down. What a great bike for the price.
This is the link below. http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/model/wingra |
