Default Attaching Bags to a Road Bike

Anyone have any ideas about how to attach a medium sized bag that would carry a few books to a carbon road bike? I really hate wearing backpacks because it makes me sweat so much.

I've seen a backpack (from Deuter I think) which has a semi-fixed arched webbing layer which is designed to keep the load off your back and allow air to circulate - never tried it though so can't vouch for it!

Thanks for your help. I'm starting to get it. If you want to go fast you have to sacrifice carrying capacity. I guess I'll carry a dry shirt in my backpack. Thanks for your help!
