Default TSS/Work

If you are training for an event that requires about 8000 kilojoules of work, do you tend to focus more on getting a certain amount of work in your training or do you focus more on TSS?

If the latter, I am not so sure how to evaluate weekly TSS in training for ultra events. Thoughts?
