Default Shifter question

I recently bought a recumbent bike. A Challenge Hurricane Sport USS. It came with Shimano bar end shifters, but I don't really like these. They get the job done, but I dont like it that I have to take my hand off, or at least move it to another position to shift.
For me the ideal shifter would be a small indexed triggershifter with the cable coming out at the 'wrong' side, so the cable goes in the same direction as the triggers are pointing. Does something like that exist? or has anyone any other suggestions for shifters I could take a look at?
