Thumbs up Buying my first road bike

I've been interested in riding for quite some time now but now I'm finally taking the big step. I'm looking to start riding to increase my fitness and go in some races. I've got a few mates who have helped me a lot so far but I'm still undecided on what to buy. I'm looking at 2nd hand and new bikes.

I've been looking at a lot of bikes with Shimano Ultegra components (105 or better) as my friends have recommended it, so I'd prefer a bike with these components. But if you have any recommendations on any bikes under $2500 please let me know. I also understand that I will have to purchase pedals, shoes, computer etc.

These are the bikes I've looked at so far...
Avanti Corsa - 2006
Azzurri Primo - 2006
Cannondale R600
Felt F55 – 2007

Felt F65 – 2006

Giant TCR 1 - 2006
Giant TCR Alliance 1 - 2007
Gitane Mach 2200
Specialized Allez Elite - 2006
Trek 1500 - 2006

Cervelo Soloist Team - 2006
*I understand a few of these are over $2500, they are boarder line to being crossed off on my list

Please tell me which one you prefer and explain why. If you have recommendations for other bikes for a beginner or bikes that are similar to those listed please let me know (keeping in mind it's under $2500).

I'd also appreciate any beginner advice.

Your input is greatly appreciated

Another route to consider is to find a frame and build it up from there. I highly recommend Yellow Jersey in Madision, WI (www.yellowjersey.com). Their website can be difficult to navigate but they offer a complete bike build using Campagnolo components from about $750 that includes everything including the seat, stems, and wheels. I found an NOS Bianchi Stelvio for $500 and had it built up with a Volece and got a complete bike with a Columbus frame for $1300. Also have been watching E-Bay and picked up a Bianchi Mega-Pro Al with Chorus and Record components for $900.

Find the right frame at the right price and go to Yellow Jersey and you could probably get a full Record or Chorus for much less than $2500.

Sorry, the site name is www.yellowjersey.org

The direct link to their offer is http://www.yellowjersey.org/ergokit.html.

I think he will ship overseas if needed.
