Default bike hand pump - recommendation/experience/alternative?

I've long carried a full-frame zefal hp x3 pump for emergency tire
inflations - however, I don't have any part of the frame available due
to several water bottle cages and some other frame attachments. I am
thinking of instead carrying a smaller hand pump that I can fit into a
rear duffle (pack). Looking for recommendations for something that
will do in a pinch to say, repair a slow leak. I've heard the smaller
(mountain bike) type hand pumps are a monster to use to fill a tire -
experiences/recommendations, particularly from anyone who's gone from
a full-sized pump to a smaller one? Alternatives?

I've long carried a short pump that fits in a separate section of my
handlebar bag, along with tire iron, patch kit, spare tube. I can't
pump a tire to the recommended pressure, but it's adequate for getting
home, and good upper-body exercise.

What about the left seat stay?

I 2nd "Topeak Road Morph": better than just about any frame pump,
including the Zefal hpX.
