Default when to start L5 and above

I know its out there but no search function..help

I have been doing the L4, SST winter training and have seen great improvement, makes me upset I spent the last couple years avoiding the SST zone thinking it was no man's land, and then quickly jumping to HIT and high L4-5.

My question is when can I add L5 , L6 even some L7 before the start of mountain bike season, and then how often or how much.

Also what has worked better for most "peaking for one or two events, or trying to be good for a couple weeks.
thanks
