Hopefully this should be an easy question to ask;
I am in the market for a new bottom bracket for my mountain bike. The BB has the square crank mountings. I have not pulled the BB out yet, so I do not have the measurements at this time. What should I look for in the new BB? I hate to believe that the more $$ the better. Mike mlawrenc(at)gmail.com |

But you better remove the old one 1st to see the to check out the measurement. What frame is it and what year? |

I will have the tools today to remove the BB to obtain the actual
measurements. The frame is an older Raleigh Canada MicroLite (~1998). I have removed the crack on a number of occations in the past, and noted that the cap on the BB stated it was a sealed unit. If it has Shimano or Sugino cranks, you'll need something with a JIS taper. That basically means I'm seconding Crazy Fred. |

Why thank you for seeing the same way I do. It could be 68 mm or 73 mm and any where from a 110 to 118 wide. No telling till it in your hand and you see the mments or you do the measuring yourself with a caliber. |
