Everything I've read on the internet seems to suggest the forthcoming 705 unit will not work with Powertap, as the 2.4 wireless unit uses a proprietary Ant+ protocol.
However, I read on Team Slipstream's website that Garmin is now an official sponsor and that the team will be using 705 units this season. But Cycleops will also be staying as an official sponsor this season too? Is this a clue that the two devices may actually work with each other? |

Per Saris, no it isn't - at this time. IOW, the current 2.4 does not use the same protocol as the 705, but in theory this could change in the future. |

That was also my understanding. But the fact that Slipstream will be using the Edge 705 this year is interesting. Last year they definitely raced with the yellow Powertap computers, so now they'll either be racing with 2 computers or the wireless powertap units will be compatible with the 705. I don't currently own a powermeter but have been in the market for one for about the past 6 months. I do have an Edge 305, which I think is great, so the ability to combine the functionality of the Edge with the versatility of the powertap between bikes is a winning formula. |
