Default FTP Test and FTHR Relationship...

Hi

I would be grateful for some advice please so that I can try to help someone who does not have access to accurate power measuring equipment. If I carry out an FTP test on someone how can I best use the information from this test to determine as accurately a I can the person's FTHR so that he can use this information to guide his future training?

My concern is that doing the FTP test from the "Bible" (which I use for people with access to a power meter for their training) will produce a good estimate of FTP but the HR he will average for the test will not really be representative of the HR he might be able to average for an hour, which would be his FTHR.

So, what should I do? Take the average HR for the 20 minute FTP test and knock say 5 beats off or is there a better way altogether of using the info from the test, I'm sure there is!

Oh yes, I know HR is not ideal but it's the best option available in this case!

Thank you.

PBUK

Will it? It might for some but I'd be inclined to look for other methods.

Get 'em to ride an hour TT.

If that's no good, consider an alternative HR based training schema not based on TT HR.
