Default Pinnarello f4:13 seatpost issues...

Hi, can anyone help me with the following:

I have an F4:13 frame with no seatpost and no seat clamp. No big deal i thought.

Unfortunately the frame takes a 31 mm post, which seems to be unique.

I will get a shim to get from the 31mm to 27.2mm, but the clamp is potentially more problematic as no-one seems to do one.

Does anyone know if a 31.8mm clamp would work or is that a really bad idea? I guess the only other alternative is to cotnact a Pinnarello dealer and try and find a spare...

I would go to Pinnarello with this question. They can answer your question better than anyone here, unless one of our members is a Pinnarello dealer. Anyway, they will know your frame better than anyone else and will be able to suggest the right fix rather than one that might or might not ruin the frame.

Well, 31.0mm may be indeed be unique -- but, are you sure it isn't a 30.9mm (a "standard" size) that you actually want? Perhaps, just as 31.7mm & 31.8mm OS-sizing is considered the same (i.e., rounding down & rouding up), the 30.9 may actually be the same size ... if not, you can probably use a sheet of notebook paper as the "shim" if there is any slippage.

FWIW. I think that many of the alloy Pinarello frames use a 31.4mm seatpost ... too bad their carbon fiber frame(s) apparently uses a different size!

BTW. The seatpost clamp probably needs to be LARGER than 31.8 ... probably, something closer to 34.2mm(?) ... but, possibly the same size (whatever that may be!?!) as used on the(ir) alloy frames.

I have had 3 Pinarello's including a 2004 Opera which takes their own 31.0mm seatpost. What I can say is that if i ever need to replace the 31.0, i would go with a 30.9. The seatposts are all extremely snug in my pinarello's so I seem to doubt that .1mm is going to make a big difference.

Thomson do a 30.9mm post which I'd imagine will be fine.

The clamp it really depends on the size required. It won't be 31mm. For example most 31.8mm seatposts use 34.9mm clamps. Anyway KCNC do a bunch of different sized clamps. They do a 33.0mm clamp which I'd guess is probably in the ballpark. Anyway measure the outside diameter of the top of the seat tube with verniers and you'll pretty quickly know what size you'll need.

Thanks for these views.

Had a word with the LBS and they can get the seat clamp from Pinnarello for £10, so that seems to be a no-brainer.

The post is more tricky as Pinnarello's own posts is £80 and I have not heard great things about it.

The post is indeed 31mm though, so I'm still thinking a shim, although I may go with the Pinarello post yet...shame to spoil it for a haporth of tar as it were.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
