Default Looking for advice on a road bike

I have a tri-bike that I love. However, I want to start to get into some road riding and get more involved with group rides. My tri-bike is a Scott Plasma full carbon and is a real nice smooth comfortable ride.

For a road bike, I have approx $1,500 to spend. Don't know if I can get get a heck of a lot worth of a carbon bike. I was looking at the Litespeed which I've seen used in that price range. I'm 5'11 220 so I'm looking for some comfort as well as performance. Titanium is supposed to be a great ride and bombproof.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Bike fit is more important than anything. Have a local fit guy that can put you on a fit cycle, get some numbers and armed with that, look for a used frame or bike. Well made titanium is perhaps the ideal material, with all the advantages of steel, but won't rust(most well made, treated steel won't either, BTW). Carbon varies wildly manufacturer to manufacturer as to ride quality and doesn't have the crashworthiness of metal frames, IMO.

You can get a hell of a road bike on ebay for $1,500. I just got a 2006 Specialized Tarmac Pro for $1550 including shipping. Full carbon, carbon handle bar, Dura Ace group with ultegra brakes and front derailer. This bike retailed for $3,700 new. Its in near mint condition. There are many of these availbale if you take the time to look.

Good Luck
