Bicyclists shoot man on porch, passing car

June 6, 2008

FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS

Two men on bikes shot a man on a Gresham porch before opening fire on
a passing car during their getaway Thursday night on the South Side.

Two bicyclists approached a man sitting on a porch in the 8400 block
of South Carpenter Street and shot him with long-barrel weapons about
11:30 p.m., police said.

The man, 32, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn
in good condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen area and arm,
police said.

After the shooting, the men got back on the bikes and fled south on
Carpenter Street. While fleeing, they were cut off by a passing car,
which they opened fire on, said a Gresham District police lieutenant.

Nobody in the car was hurt.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody
early Friday.
