I'm leading a university group in Rome this summer, and I thought it would be a fun diversion to spend a Sunday renting bikes and riding to Ostia Lido, the beach nearest Rome. Does anyone know 1.) a good place to rent bikes in Rome and/or 2.) a good route from Rome to Ostia (maximum beauty, minimal traffic). Thanks.

PM for more information, but there really is no easy, low traffic route from Rome to Ostia. And also keep in mind that most of Rome ends up in Ostia on summer weekends so the traffic becomes hellish if you are on the road much past 10 AM.
In other words, your idea may not be the best, unless you are leading a group of experienced riders...
