Default Stage Races- Large Gaps

In Stage 1 of the Route Du Sud today the winning break (eventuially 17
riders) gained roughly 37 minutes on the field.

Where does this stand historically in terms of BIG gaps created early
in a stage race? And of course this race is only a measly 4 stages.
In recent TdF history Oscar Pereiro comes to mind. And farther back
theres the pensec /massen/chiapucci/bauer break that had each of them
wearing yellow at some point. Um no, maybe not Massen.
Thoughts anyone?
