Default A Exercise Bike Vs A Mountain Bike

Just got rid of my Mountain bike for the winter and replaced it with a Exercise bike which has got 8 gears on it when ''cycling'' in top gear on the exercise bike is it the same as cycling on the flat or a slight climb on a mountain bike

There really is no way for anyone to know unless you are using some other device like a heart rate monitor or if the bikes have some kind of watts read out. You can always go by the last way which is perceived exertion.
