Default return of the Vino...

He says he want to comeback in 2009 and ride the Giro for Astana.

That makes for a crowded team if he is allowed back after only one year.

Thanks

When does Kessler rejoin Astana? Astana could be the biggest rogue's gallery ever. It will be the perfect team for The Lance.

If this happens, next year is going to be boring grand tour season. It is already bad enough with Armstrong, Contador, Leipheimer and Klody on the same team.

Vino says he's aiming for the Giro in 2009 not the tour, and will try to win the tour in 2010.

I wonder if Bruyneel was pressured by the Khazak's to take Vino back?

or, I wonder if Bruyneel is taking him on as a sacrificial lamb (i.e., let Vino take all the heat about doping, not LA)?

or is Bruyneel showing his true colors (i.e., idiot) by hiring a 3rd rider he may regret hiring? Basso at Disco, LA at Astana (if Contador leaves), now Vino?

Astana will be the most dominant team ever. Armstrong, Contador, Vino, Levi, Horner...

LOL, at least we will no longer have to have threads debating doping in pro cycling at that point.

I think it's going to be a serious power-struggle within Astana if the sponsors insist that Vinokourov joins the team. Imagine working within such an atmosphere! If Vino joins, a lot of riders will leave. And not just the star-riders.

Power struggle? With the checkbook the Kazakhs have and the ever diminishing sponsors in pro cycling? I think everyone would settle in nicely, thank you, and do what they are told, with the exception of one or two stars a la Contador, who can get good contracts with other teams.

Perhaps power-struggle were not the right words. I'm just thinking "I i was a, say, spring-classics domestique or a mechanic in Astana, how would I feel about working with someone who betrayed the company two years ago and put everyones jobs in danger." The answer is that a higher salary would maybe get me to not quit imediately, but my work morale would most likely be rock-bottom. I know cyclists work a lot on their own, but it's still a team sport.
