In Honiara, Solomon Islands, we have started road racing again. It is a bit (very) disorganised, races scheduled once a month but actually occur about every 2 months. Riders here are very keen (and very fit) training daily. Bunch riding is very interesting as is the equipment. If anyone would have suggestions as to getting some equipment very cheaply out of Australia (old but preferrably with brakes) (we have a freight consolidation agent in Brisbane Australia). We get a turnout of about 50 to our road races which run from Henderson to White river and back to chinatown, there are plent of large potholes. We will be forming a club in Honiara in the near future and would appriciate if anyone could donate a constitution suit Local amateur club. We plan to send promising riders out to compete in Naru and Kiribassi this year and hopefully Brisbane however we will need to concentrate on bunch riding skills for a little while. Like to hear from any Brisbane club that would welcome our riders too. Any usefull advice welcome.

I recently saw a program on SBS about the Tour de Faso. These guys had it tough. Older bikes, less than ideal support, they had to put thier own tents up every night etc, yet they had passion and skill. If someone offered me raffle tickets, at say $50.00 each, with the money going to the riders, and the winner of the raffle getting a chance to partake inthe next tour, I'd have shelled out the money straight away. Crazy suggestion maybe, but I've heard worse. |
