Default 2 weeks to go!

My first race is in 2 weeks. I've done as much training as possible up till now....

Do I keep going hard for another week?

What should I do in the last week before the race?

My speeds are still improving each week, so I haven't peaked yet....

Getting nervous and don't want to be burned out & tired on race day or too rested either....

My plan is to train very hard this Wed, Thur, Frid.... light ride on Saturday & one last hard run on Sunday one week before the race. In the final week just a few light runs every day or two....

I will cut out the weight training as well in the last week.

Any other tips?

Yes keep up the work, you don't want to de-train. Focus on the high intensity (similar intensities to those you'll be doing in the race) and you may need to have a little more rest.

Keep riding, reduce the volume a lot but maintain the intensity. Ride the day before the event, including a few short bouts of high intensity.

So keep the intensity up but reduce volume so you recover.

Thanks for the support. I will go to the race course tomorrow and do a lot of slow laps but will go extra hard in the places I think are going to be my weak spots... I'm feeling in great shape!!!

The race is four laps of about 5.5km. I will do 10 laps tomorrow and will do the last 2 at race speed...

I do need more sleep, that is for sure...

Thanks again!

2LAP has given you very good advice. Start your other preparations asap. That includes sorting out your bike, cycling kit, race number and license, starting time, venue and race day nutrition well in advance.
Good luck! Hope it goes well!

Shoes!!!
My cleats (LOOK) are wearing thin and I have a new pair in waiting... do I switch now? Switch before the race? switch after the race?

My back tire!
has a big nick on the corner (ie not on the top and not on the side). It may be close to the tube! It may not.

Do I get a new tire before the race or after the race? (I filled the nick with tube glue but it still opens up after a ride!

My Cranks!

I'm a beginner and just figured out that my brothers hand me down bike has 175mm cranks... that I'm used to now, but are obviously too big for me. 170 or even as low as 165 may be suitable for my leg length.

Too late to change now before the race?

As I'm still a beginner my spinning skills are still very weak but I have good explosive power that I should be able to keep up for just a 25km race, so I plan to power this race and then switch to smaller cranks after the race and concentrate on spinning then!

Whatever happens I'm enjoying it all plenty!!!

Problem solved. The cut was deep enough to rub on the tube. The tube got a puncture, so I got two new tyres.

The old tires could only take 110 pounds. The new ones can handle 130.
I don't know if this is psychological or not but I swear I can ride faster now with the harder tires... Seemed so much easier tonight... I could even hit 50km/h on my roller today without falling off....
