Which new racing bike? Help please!
Having decided to splash out on a new bike, I've narrowed it down to either a Litespeed Sirius, or Wiley Triestina Alpe D'Huez or QR Caliente with Ultegra throughout. All are alum with carbon both ends and roughly the same weight. I'm upgrading from a Giant OCR, and use the bike for triathlons, so will be sticking to compact geometry. So which one, or does anyone have any other suggestions? I am pretty happy with current speed along the flat, but need to get a better edge on the hills.
Also I've looked at going from triple to double. A dealer has suggested I look at 53/38 and 12-27 to give me some lower gear options, does this sound sensible because I do currently use my granny on my triple (52/42/30 - 12-25) sometimes for steeper hills - but probs never the 3 largest cogs. Any help appreciated. |

Those frames all sound really similar, so go with the one that inspires you most
 . That could be the best-looking one, the one with the greatest attention to detail, or whatever.Switching to double cranks is very sensible. 53/38 with 12-25 should work well. 38-25 is about the same as 30-21, which sounds like the lowest practical gear you use at the moment. The double will save you weight - lighter crank, lighter rear derailleur and less chain. HTH |
