Default Rockadile ALD Worth the extra

Im looking at getting back into MTBing, did some rec stuff YEARS ago on my old Shogun Trailbreaker, which i still have an is still going, its simple, but it certainly is strong.

Im looking at the Mongoose Rockadile ALX or ALD, being the only difference the Discs' on the ALD version.

Is it worth the extra. Here in Australia its around $100 more ($65US).

I understand in normal good weather the difference would probably be minimal, but i do like going out in the mud and feel perhaps discs may help here?

Also should i expect either of these two models to stand up to as much punishment as my old faithful Shogun has (including smaller jumps)

Any ideas would be great help.

Thanks

Danny

Yes, disc brakes are worth some extra.
They require some different materials and skills for maintenance.
They will help your rims live longer as you won''t be wearing away the walls.
Make sure the wheels are very well secured as the disc transmit tourque. Make sure your spokes are in the correct orientation to properly transmit the torque. Also make sure the spokes are evenly tesnioned and stress relieved.
Disc brakes put additional/other forces on the wheels.
If the wheels go out of true in the middle of a ride, you will be able to keep going as you won't have brake rub.
