Are there any cyclists out there who are living in the Kempton Park/Benoni area, who work in Centurion (or even Pretoria) and want to cycle to work some mornings during winter? The biggest problem with these early morning winter rides is not so much the temperature, because you can always dress warmly. A bigger problem is that it's still dark when you want to start out, which makes it dangerous on the road. A friend and I thought if we can get a large enough group together, we could take turns for 1 person to drive a "support vehicle" to follow the cyclists, with hazards swithced on. We could leave Kempton Park at 6:00 and be in Centurion by about 7:00-7:20 (about 35 km, averaging 27-35 km/h). To get back home we can either cycle back the same way or you could take your bike in your car to work one morning, leave your bike there and drive home on day 1. Day 2 you drive to work, leave your car at work and cycle back home. On day 3 you cycle to work and drive back home... and so the cycle repeats itself. The point is there are different options available and over time we will have to find the best solution for our needs. If you are interested, please e-mail me and let's see if we can start a truly unique training group!
