Default Myrtle Beach S.C.

My family wants to vacation here. In the past, I have not been able to find a good route in which to ride a road bike. I am willing to drive a little outside of Myrtle beach to get to decent place to ride, but need to know where to head. I am from PA. and am essentially unfamiliar with the area surrounding both Myrtle and North Myrtle Beaches. Anybody Please help me. I love riding more than laying on the beach by a long shot!
Thanks
Steve

hi steve

we vacationed 30 minutes south of myrtle a couple of years ago. (pawley's island) i think that you can find plenty of roads to cycle on. the main drags are four lane highways with lots of traffic like you find in any suburban area but go on any side road and you can quickly get out in the country. go further and ;you are really in the country! it's a beautiful, lush area. i never saw so many butterflies in my life. in the summer it gets pretty hot and humid. myrtle beach is pretty built up and not so interesting for riding. i would suggest riding along the beach area and all the little beach roads. if you want to do some distance and speed then do the interior roads which are mostly 2 lane with little traffic. i found the folks there really friendly and nice if you act that way to them -even to a new yorker.

also, the beach there is really flat and hard. with a mtb you can get a great ride on the beach - the sand is that hard! when you get hot just jump in the ocean.

good luck

bob
