Training regimes are really a very personalised thing. A book written by Joe Friel "The cyclists training Bible" will give you a template by which you can create your own programme.

Your programme will need to work on your particular needs and weaknesses on the bike.
Inthe early years of a training regime for racing you would need to concentrate on ensuring that you get a good solid aerobic base each year before doing much intensity work or racing.

Another good book is the Chris Charmicheal 7 week training program. I purchased the book and contains alot of good information. At the end though since I want to race I felt it better to hire a cycling coach and go from there.

To give you some examples of the training I do here are the 7 day training routine.

Mon - easy ride - zone 1 or 2
Tues - interval training - zone 3 and 4
Wed - recovery ride - zone 2
Thur - interval training - zone 4 and 5
Fri - recovery ride - zone 1
Sat - long ride - zone 3
Sun - long ride - zone 3

Remember once you get into this kind of training you need to have gotten a good base other wise you won't see to much improvements.

as far as interval training is concerned that is where the books will come in handy because depending on what you need help on is what your going to be training for whether climbing, sprints or building endurance.

and so I don't forget, nothing substitutes time on the bike and I mean TIME.
