Default need advice on crit/team etiquette

I am doing my first road crit this Saturday and am concerned about etiquette. I will have teammates in the field but do not know them well. I don't know how to plan this - do I protect myself (re: taking the draft if I'm not strong enough to pull) and then risk having a good sprint and possibly having others get upset with me? Any general etiquette advice for me? Thanks.

So I guess you are quite young and, from the name, female? It makes a difference in that you might get a bit of shoving from the more obnoxious males in a mixed race. Sad but true, just stay out of the baskets' way.

Otherwise for your first race, I'd say you owe them nothing, teammates or not. Sit on the wheels, stay out of trouble, don't crash (go smoothly round the corners). If you're there at the end, good, sprint your heart out. Unless there's something you're not telling us, I don't suppose they'll expect anything from you anyway.

Have fun. Don't worry if you get dropped. If you're allowed, wait a lap, get back in and keep trying.

Thanks Roy. Well, I'm not young, unfortunately, but am just transitioning to road from mountain. I appreciate your input, and we'll see how it goes! Your comments have helped take some of the nervousness out of it. Thanks.

Oops sorry no offence intended. Don't be nervous. Calm, relaxed - not crashing is most important!

You might ask what they expect? Unless you're exceptionally strong I'd expect (hope!) they'd say along the lines of Have fun, take it easy, stay out of trouble.

Good luck on the day; why not say here how you got on?

I found this site in a search for Shimano 858 pedals (which were already sold - bummer).

I'm praying for no rain tomorrow! And no offense taken re: age - I'm 39 and wouldn't go back if I could!

Thanks again for the input. BTW - where is this site from? Is it regional?

The site is based in Australia as far as I know, but by no means do Australians only post here... in fact probably the minority. Hope you find some useful information here! I know i have...

Cheers,
Troy
