I just found this great link to a detailed mapset of all cycling-friendly roads in the Melbourne metropolitan area.. including all off-road paths, bike lanes, and wide left lanes.
Like a Melways for bikes! http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrne...=[Cyclists] ![]()

Thanks rek. I'm finding there are quite a few good bike tracks around Melbourne myself, especially branching off the Ring road. Its good as you can cycle far without having to deal with suburban traffic. Imo there should be a dedicated path or lane on every major road for commuting to the city, not just for recreational purposes.
While those wide left road lanes marked for cyclists are great they tend to end rather quickly and sometimes in dangerous areas. Prefer riding country roads any day. |

w00t! Thanks muchly. I can now shut down the three iterations of Google I have open trying to find a map of bikepaths in Melbourne Timing is everything. I'm new to the board, by the way. I've started cycling as general transport originally to save money (impoverished student) but I'm starting to really enjoy it. I think this will have to become part of my daily surfing. |
