I'm considering signing up for a road bike tour in Colombia next year - probably in October or November - and was looking for suggestions and recommendations, mainly regarding the choice of a tour company. I want to do a longer tour (nine or ten days of riding), and I want the tour to include Alto De Letras. The one I'm considering is by a company called Cyclota: http://cyclota.com/package/cycling-colombia/ The article in Bicycing Magazine a couple of months ago caught my eye (https://www.bicycling.com/culture/c...et-list-cycling-destination-youre-looking-for). The itinerary and dates really appeal to me.

Does anyone out there have experience with this company? There doesn't seem to be a lot of internet activity regarding this or any other Colombia bike tour.

Thanks

I'm reviving this thread, because the landscape for Colombia bike tour companies has apparently changed - and for the worse - since this thread was last active . . . So, any recommendations for established and reputable Colombia tour companies? This would be for a possible tour in April of 2023.

Hey there! It's great to hear that you're planning a bike tour in Colombia! I've been cycling for over a decade and have participated in various events. While I don't have any personal recommendations, I suggest reaching out to local cycling communities or checking online forums for up-to-date information. Good luck with your tour in April 2023!

I've taken a quick look at Cyclota and their Colombia tour. The itinerary seems well-planned, and I appreciate their attention to detail, especially regarding the support vehicles and accommodations. However, I would encourage you to inquire about the specific models and conditions of the rental bikes. As a perfectionist when it comes to cycling, I'd want to ensure the bike is in top condition and suits my riding style.

Additionally, I'd recommend asking for references or reviews from past participants, as this can provide valuable insights into the overall experience and the company's reliability. Remember, a great tour company not only offers fantastic routes but also prioritizes safety, support, and customer satisfaction. I hope this helps, and I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts after you've gathered more information. Happy cycling! :)

It's great to hear that you're considering Cyclota's Colombia tour and value a well-planned itinerary. I'd like to add that, as a dedicated cyclist, you might also want to look into the terrain details provided by the company. Inquiring about the elevation gains, road conditions, and scenic views can help you prepare for the ride and ensure it aligns with your preferences. Also, don't forget to ask about the guide-to-participant ratio, as a lower ratio often results in a more personalized and safer experience. Wishing you enjoyable and insightful research! :)

When evaluating a cycling tour, it's not only about the itinerary but also the bikeability of the route. As an experienced cyclist, I'd recommend looking into the specifics of the route's terrain. Inquiring about the percentage of off-road versus paved roads, frequency of steep climbs, and availability of bike lanes can significantly impact your riding experience. Additionally, understanding the support system during the tour, such as mechanical assistance and emergency response, is crucial for a safe and worry-free journey. Happy cycling and enjoy your research!

Absolutely, the terrain's details can make or break a cycling tour. While researching, consider the surface quality too, as gravel or poor road conditions can affect your ride. Also, inquiring about the support vehicle's availability can be helpful in emergencies or for tired cyclists. Wishing you enjoyable and safe cycling adventures!
