There's a coverage of a study on Cycling and Health at

It's too long to include here, but one interesting figure is that in the UK in 2001, 111 adults and
25 children were killed during cycling, whilst 236,000 people were killed by cardiovascular disease.

All these figures are too high, but perhaps we should not bother with compulsory helmet wearing, and
concentrate on compulsory exercise!

...unfortunately, I'm one of those non sylph-like people who's in danger on either side of this
equation...
