Well am currently using fingerless gloves with gel padding for summer riding. I that is how I think you use them Have not got full finger cycling gloves as of yet, but will need them soon as it is Winter tomorrow. Will still have to use my summer fingerless on Friday as am going on a four day tour then.
In the summer I would prefer a half-finger glove. I had bought a half finger gloves at SKYSPER, it made of gel. It is said that the gloves design for rider. Maybe you can find some different. That is site: https://www.skysper.com/products/gel-cycling-gloves
I much more comfortable with the fingerless gloves. I don't know exactly the difference, maybe it's about how you comfortable about your gloves. But well, of course, I think much safer and will help you to avoid the wounds if you use the full gloves.
I normally don’t use gloves when I ride particularly when I don’t intend to go outside our village. But for a longer ride, I prefer the fingerless glove because my dexterity is normal unlike the full hand glove that covers my entire hand which seems that I have lost my feel for the handle bar. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to but I think the fingerless glove is much popular now among riders, both for bicycles and motorcycles.
I like to use fingerless gloves on a regular day as it feels more natural being able to feel more with my fingers, but I don't really use gloves that often.
I prefer fingerless gloves for warm weather riding. I maintain the dexterity to rummage through my jersey pockets, work the buttons on my computer and operate my phone.
In the winter I switch to full finger gloves and it is noticeable when I want to do any of those above actions that it is more difficult.
