Is Benign Fasciculation Syndrome curible?

For some time now, I've been experiencing these "twitches" on my body.
I usually have many of them going on all over me -- though they are
most frequent in my legs. There is no pain involved, but they are
extremely annoying, especially when I'm trying go to sleep. (I've also
been getting cramps, especially at night, mostly in my legs.) From
what I've come across on the internet, it sounds like it is "Benign
Fasciculation Syndrome" (BFS) -- or at least I HOPE it's "benign!" Can
anything be done to ease or eliminate this? (Please say, "yes!") Is
this related to the cramps? Can this be the result of some kind of
allergy, or a nutritional deficiency? The only pattern I notice is
that it seems to occur more often after eating certain foods, mainly
fruits and vegetables -- especially raw or lightly cooked -- and tomato
or vegetable juice. Several recent blood tests show nearly everything
is in the normal range, although my urea nitrogen, lymphocytes, and
albumin are a bit high, and my WBC, RDW, and ferritin are slightly low.
(But my iron level is fine -- 88 uG/DL.) Any suggestions . . . ?

FYI, I'm a 37 year old male, 6 ft. 1 in., 160 lbs., and I do a lot of
bicycle riding -- 150 - 200 miles a week. (But I still have the
symptoms even if I don't ride for several days.) During this period
I've used the following supplements, at one point or another, to no
avail: Magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, zinc, potassium, lysine, fish
oil, acidophilus, vitamin C, high-dose B-complex, sublingle B12,
whole-food multivitamin, pancreatin, liver extract, hydrochloric acid,
priobotic, inositol, chlorella, spirulina, an electrolyte-replacement
powder -- this eased the cramps, but not the fascics -- and a
"homeopathic leg cramps" formula -- which seemed to make the cramps
WORSE!

I'd rather search in the area of stress factors (like in relationship, job
etc) instead of vitamin deficiencies from the description.. can you rule
these out?

Considering the amount of biking you do, I would think a doctor might
want to look at your spine to see if there is arthritis or nerve
irritation there.

I have had the same condition that you described for the past 4-5 months. I recently took up road cycling and ride 3-4 times per week, fairly hard. My legs are twitching almost every night right after I get into bed, delaying my ability to fall asleep by 30-90 minutes.

Has your condition subsided since you first posted? If so, what did you change in your daily routine and/or cycling regimen?

Thanks a lot.

OK, what do you guys think of this?

Up until 3 weeks ago, I was healthy and riding about 220-250 miles/week all summer doing solo and group road work.

3 weeks ago, I crashed and broke my hand, so for a few days, exercise went to zero. 4 days later, I had severe exercise-induced cramps in my quads from minor exertion (e.g., walking a mile, 15 minutes on an elliptical device (with the broken hand, I cant grip the bars, so no riding or even a trainer yet). As soon as any muscle fatigue accumulated, there was significant cramping. This has continued for almost 3 weeks, though its severity is not constant - yesterday and the day before, I managed 30 minutes on the elliptical.

The same muscles that are cramping are also fasciculating- whether I exercise or not. The fasciculations are painless, though. And my legs feel fatigued, even though I am doing nothing even approaching what was normal just a few weeks ago.

From my reading, it seems to match what is known as cramping fasciculation syndrome, which is a modestly severe form of BFS - marked by cramping and exercise intolerance.

Road cycling is my true love, and I am a little bit terrified.

Anybody with similar experiences/advice/wisdom?
