Remember the difference between a Guinness record and a world record.
When a sport has an existing governing body that tracks such things,
Guinness generally looks to them for official data on records. We're
hoping they will eventually do this with the IUF for unicycling.
If there is *no* governing body keeping track of records, Guinness is
much less likely to mind accepting a record even if everyone believes
someone has done better. Naturally you have to weigh your desire to have
an absolute record against the desire for success on the show. But even
if you *establish* a record for something that was not previously
recognized, though someone may have already done it better, you have
helped by getting it into the database of Guinness.
For gliding, the *unofficial* record is 0.8 mile (distance). There is no
proof of this, just a car odometer (it was actually closer to 0.9), a
driver and a unicyclist. Try *that* in the studio!
