Default Is the Athens track short?

Some of the times are unbelievable!
Women's 3000m pursuit record down by ~5 sec.
Men's 4000m team pursuit down by 1 sec
Women's 500m - 34 sec barrier broken

All set about a week after:
1. it's too hot
2. it's too dusty
3. it's too windy

Here's an article about how the humid conditions in Athens helped: http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2004.../aug21humidity

I think the focussed preparation by cyclists wanting to peak for the Olympics plays a big part as well. In the women's IP, at least three riders (including the record holder) beat the record set by Sarah Ulmer at the World Champs in Melbourne.

the hotter the air, the less dense it is. that means you go faster.
it was 95 degrees during part of the competition.
