Unusual routes on a bike, suggestions please

Hi everyone

My husband and I are setting off next July for a year (possibly more) biking. We did this 20 years ago, taking in a lot of Europe and SE Asia but now we're looking for somewhere a bit different. We need to get our 'cycling legs' so we were thinking of starting off in Croatia or the Baltics, any routes spring to mind?

We're happy in the heat (not so happy in the rain) and we really do like shlepping up mountains/volcanoes. We enjoy the isolation of the road but also look forward to letting our hair down in a travelling hotspot like Kathmandu or Kuta!

We are not Katmandu but if you ever think about cycling the Canal du Midi in France, we run a B&B. So far we seem to have accommodated alot of cyclist..

Anyway we wish you LOL, life is an adventure.
