Default Celebrity spoiled my ride.

No, it wasn't Norman Collier this time. On Saturday I tried to take my normal short cut through
Hull's West Park and then past the Kingston Communications stadium, only to be prevented from doing
so by several burly security men. Apparently, someone called Elton John was performing there and
oiks like me weren't allowed anywhere near. Simon

I've often wondered about this .. going dangerously off-topic for a moment .. But is it legal for
'burly bodyguards' to stop *anyone* from going through, say, a park in this manner ?

I have no clue as to what they may be done for if they do stop you illegally, but it does seem a tad
inconvenient to be stopped from using a 'normal short cut' just some celeb's in town.

Course, I guess the question also has to be asked, in the name of fairness, is the route you take a
legal (for bicycles) thoroughfare ?

I wouldn't have thought anyone can stop you unless it's private land or they are a police officer. I
remember them filming a MacDonalds ad on Chiswick High Road once and some crew ushering people off
the pavement, round the vans etc and onto the road. One chap with his 2 daughters just walked
straight through to the shout of cut from the director. I don't blame him either. Why put his
family's life in danger for the sake of a few burgers? On a similar note I couldn't give a sh*t
about Elton John either.

Since when have thugs been bothered about minor things like legality?

However, I assume that "the Kingston Communications stadium" is on "private" land (even though the
council may once have "owned" it) and the "owners" are at liberty to decide who they allow to use
the land they occupy.

Phew! When I read the header I thought you meant your own celebrity was making it difficult for you
to go out in public after being nominated as Grand Spokesperson Of All Who Cycle In Hull ;-)

The stadium is in the middle of a park which is council property and since they close some at night,
I suppose they have the powers to close public parks as they see fit.

I would check the bylaws. They might only be able to close the park between dusk and dawn.
